The Hull Ready Programme
Hull Ready is an innovative enterprise programme for Hull primary schools, supported and promoted by a range of organisations including Rotherham Ready, St Stephen’s, the Co-operative Group, the Hull Youth Enterprise Bank, Hull City Council and Hull Training.
The project is made up of various elements which include;
-
The Big 13 Enterprise Entitlements
-
Make £5 Blossom
-
National Standard for Excellence in Enterprise Education
-
Support for Enterprise Champions
More than 70 primary schools have taken part in the programme and over
140 teachers have been involved with the Inspire training days to become
Enterprise Champions for their schools. These training days have helped
teachers and schools realise that most of the things they are doing in their
curriculum is already enterprising, and by embedding the Big 13 skills it gives
everyone a common language to refer to.
The Make £5 Blossom element allows the children to have the support of a local
business and a £150 loan from them to run their own mini enterprise. Over each
of the seven rounds that have taken place to date, every school has managed to
pay back the original loan and make a profit; some were over a thousand pounds!
The celebration events, which see the children share their enterprise journey to
an audience, really showcase where the pupils have used the Big 13 skills as well
as being a chance to show how much they enjoyed being involved.
The Hull Ready programme also allows primary schools in Hull and East Riding
the opportunity to work towards the National Standard for Excellence in
Enterprise Education, an accreditation recognising the use of an enterprise
culture and enterprising activities.
